SPS automotive performance starts the second season half at Red Bull Ring
With the two races at the Red Bull Ring, the International GT Open enters the second half of the 2023 season. After the good results at the Circuit Paul Ricard, SPS automotive performance is looking to build on its performance and collect further important championship points in Austria.
The Grand Prix circuit in Styria is the venue for races eight and nine of the 2023 International GT Open season, and after the season so far, the form curve for the team from Obersulm is clearly pointing upwards. Reece Barr (IRL) and Mikaeel Pitamber (RSA) achieved their best result of the season so far with the #20 Mercedes-AMG GT3 at the previous event at Circuit Paul Ricard, finishing sixth and fourth in the two rounds. On the up-and-down track in Styria, Barr and Pitamber are again aiming for good results for the overall standings.
Dexter Müller and Yannick Mettler (both SUI) will once again share the wheel of the second Mercedes-AMG GT3 with start number 54, which will race under the name CBRX by SPS. Last year, the duo clinched a class podium in the PROAM category at the Red Bull Ring under difficult conditions and are also confident going into the two rounds of the International GT Open this season. Müller and Mettler are currently second in the championship standings in their category and would like to defend this position in the fiercely contested PROAM class with a good result.
The first race of the International GT Open at the Red Bull Ring over a distance of 70 minutes will start on Saturday, 9 September at 12:30 pm. For race two, which is scheduled to last 60 minutes, the lights go green the following Sunday at 13:30.
Stephan Sohn, team principal SPS automotive performance: "After the summer break, we obviously want to build on our good performances of the last races in the second half of the season. Both driver duos have shown that they can compete for the top. Last year we saw that things can get tough at the Red Bull Ring. But with a clever strategy, many championship points are possible. This is the goal we have set ourselves for the coming weekend."
